What are family location apps?

Apps like Life360 let you and your family see each other’s location on a map in real time. They’re useful when you want to know a loved one got home safely or when family wants to check on you without calling.

Features that matter for seniors

  • Location sharing — See where family members are (with their permission).
  • Place alerts — Get notified when someone arrives at or leaves home, the doctor, or other important places.
  • Crash detection — Some apps can detect a car crash and alert emergency contacts.
  • Location history — See where someone has been (useful if you’re worried they got lost).

Is it private?

Only people you invite can see your location. You choose who’s in your “circle” and can turn sharing off anytime. Talk with family about who sees what so everyone is comfortable.

When it’s worth it

  • You or a family member live alone and want a quick way to confirm everyone is okay.
  • Someone drives a lot and you want peace of mind.
  • You want fewer “Did you get home?” calls — a quick look at the map can answer that.

How to get started

  1. Download a family location app (e.g. Life360) from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Create an account and invite family by email or phone.
  3. Once they accept, you’ll see each other on the map (if sharing is on).
  4. Set up place alerts in the app if you want notifications for home or other locations.
