Get directions, find places, and plan trips
Google Maps and Apple Maps can guide you by car, walking, or transit. You can search for restaurants, stores, doctors, and more. Here’s how to get started.
Getting directions
- Open Google Maps or Apple Maps.
- Tap the search bar and type where you want to go (address, place name, or “coffee shop near me”).
- Tap Directions or the route icon.
- Choose how you’re traveling: car, walking, or transit.
- Tap Start or Go to begin turn-by-turn navigation.
Finding places
Search for “pharmacy,” “grocery store,” “doctor,” or a specific business name. The map shows results with pins. Tap a pin to see hours, phone number, and reviews. You can save favorite places for quick access later.
Google Maps vs. Apple Maps
Both work well. Google Maps has more detailed business info and reviews. Apple Maps comes built-in on iPhone and works with Siri. Android phones usually have Google Maps. Use whichever you prefer — the basics are the same.
Quick tips
- Download maps for offline use if you’ll be in an area with poor signal.
- Share your location with family so they can see where you are (with your permission).
- Use voice navigation so you can keep your eyes on the road.
