Streaming on Your Smart TV
Watch Netflix, Prime Video, and more on your TV. Setup, remote basics, and finding what to watch.
Netflix, Prime Video, and more on your TV
Smart TVs and streaming devices let you watch Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and other services on your television. Here’s how to set it up and use it.
Smart TV vs. streaming device
A smart TV has apps built in — you connect to Wi‑Fi and open Netflix or Prime Video directly. A streaming device (Roku, Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast) plugs into a regular TV and adds the same apps. Both work the same way once you’re in an app.
Basic setup
- Connect your TV or device to Wi‑Fi (Settings or Setup).
- Open the app store on the TV (e.g. Samsung Apps, Roku Channel Store).
- Download Netflix, Prime Video, or another service.
- Open the app and sign in with your account (or create one).
Using the remote
Use the arrow buttons or D-pad to move around. OK or Select chooses something. Back goes back. Home takes you to the main screen. Play, pause, and volume work like a regular TV remote.
Finding what to watch
Each app has a home screen with suggestions. Use the search option to find a specific show or movie. You can browse by category (Comedy, Drama, etc.). Prime Video and Netflix are among the most popular with adults 50+.
Quick tips
- Keep your remote’s batteries fresh — a weak remote can be frustrating.
- If the picture is fuzzy, check your internet speed. Streaming needs a steady connection.
- You can cancel a subscription anytime in the app or on the service’s website.
