Find how-to videos, music, news, and more
YouTube is the world’s largest video site. You can learn new skills, watch old favorites, or catch up on news. Here’s how to get started.
Searching for videos
Tap the search bar at the top, type what you’re looking for (e.g. “how to knit a scarf,” “Frank Sinatra live”), and tap Search. Tap any video to watch it.
Subscribing to channels
When you find a channel you like, tap Subscribe. New videos from that channel will show up in your feed. Subscribing is free.
Basic controls
- Play/Pause — Tap the video.
- Volume — Use the volume buttons on your device or the slider on screen.
- Full screen — Tap the expand icon to watch full-screen.
- Settings — Tap the gear icon for playback speed, captions, and quality.
Finding new content
The home page shows recommended videos. Scroll down for more. You can also browse by category (Music, News, How-to) or search for specific topics.
Quick tips
- Turn on captions if you have trouble hearing — tap the CC button.
- Be careful with ads and pop-ups — don’t tap suspicious links.
- You can create a free Google account to subscribe and save favorites.
